Lectionary Gospel Reading November 20, 2005 Quick Overview Cycle A

Text: Matthew 25:31-46 Jesus Parable about Separating the Sheep from the Goats

Key Verse: Matthew 25:32 "... He shall come in His Glory...and before Him (King Jesus) shall be gathered all the Nations and He shall separate them one from another, as the Shepherd separates the sheep from the goats."

Key Word: Separate

Key Thought: Be ready for the great separation at Jesus' return by showing continual compassion to the sick, poor, persecuted and imprisoned, etc.. And so be on His side in the separation.

Outline of Ideas Presented in the Text:

Christ will return suddenly and unexpectedly to separate out those that are His. This time He will come not as a humble Saviour but as King and Judge of all the earth.

Those that have been self sacrificing and compassionate in meeting the needs of their less fortunate neighbors
will be separated out and received into His eternal kingdom of Joy and fullfillment.

The Lord Jesus Christ will separate out and reject the unloving ones who ignored their unfortunate neighbors and their needs. Those that showed no mercy to their less fortunate neighbors could expect no mercy from the Lord.

Application:

Christians must learn to separate out the worthy from the unworthy. They must approve that which is excellent--helping their truly needy neighbors. True Christians will be in the forefront in showing compassion to the needy around them.

BE SEPARATE FROM THE CROWD AND LOVE YOUR UNFORTUNATE NEIGHBOR!
